Dear Friends, Family and Volunteers,
First, let me say once again how grateful Paula and her family are to all the volunteers who are helping search for and spread the word about Pierre.
Here are the plans for today (Friday), Saturday and Sunday. Please forward this on to your contacts or those you believe can join the cause, in whatever way that they can.
Today (Friday) & Tomorrow (Saturday) – November 13-14, 2009:
We are asking that the general search today and tomorrow cover:
- Vancouver Downtown Eastside neighbourhoods, including: Chinatown, Gastown, Commercial Drive, Strathcona and along the waterfront stretching from Gastown to the Second Narrows bridge in Burnaby (Port of Vancouver area).
- Vancouver and the surrounding vicinity waterways and beaches. A small contingent of vessels will continue yesterday’s efforts on the water. Sailors, or those with boats that wish to assist in continuing to scan waterways are asked to coordinate efforts with Ross Macdonald at ross@findpierre.com
- Unless this is your own neighbourhood, we ask that you at minimum work in pairs with each others contact details (in case you get separated.)
- Continue canvassing your own neighbourhoods and placing the poster where appropriate.
Additionally, we request that private property and restricted areas be respected or avoided unless express permission is given. The authorities typically have the channels to enlist the appropriate personnel accordingly. We do not want anyone breaking the law or putting themselves in harms way to assist with the canvassing and search. We want everyone to return home safely to their homes and loved ones at the end of each day.
If you need printed posters, they can be picked up after 11:00AM from 1275 W. 6th Ave (the Inspiration/BoConcept Furniture building – ask 2nd floor Receptionist for posters). PDF can also be downloaded here.
Sunday, November 15, 2009:
After the exhaustive search of nearly every square foot of the approximately 1,000 acres of Stanley Park on Wednesday, we believe that there is another large parks area that needs to be covered in the same methodical manner. Our next big goal is a comprehensive grid formation search of Pacific Spirit Park (aka the Endowment Lands) adjacent to the University of British Columbia, which will cover an additional roughly 1900 acres of parks. We are planning to get started at 9am. We initially felt that due to the urgency we would organize this for Saturday, but the inbound inclement weather (-3C with light flurries) might deter some that would like to assist albeit on a day of worship.
Please note the following important information:
- When: Sunday, November 15th
- Time: 9:00 AM sharp
- Place: Pacific Spirit Regional Park Office, located on the north side of 16th Avenue, approximately 600m west of Blanca St. See map http://www.metrovancouver.org/about/maps/Maps/Pacificspiritmap.pdf
- Parking: Free parking is available all along 16th Ave and Blanca St.
- Clothing: Wear warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear
- What to bring: Cell phone, flashlight, walking stick or ski pole, food & water (for yourself – the search may go all day but is based on your own availability)
We’ll provide the leadership of the effort, maps of the area, a photo of Pierre, and organize the teams. Additionally, volunteers may provide us with their email addresses so that we can keep them informed and place them on this email distribution list.
REMINDER: If you see Pierre, or recall seeing him anytime since Sunday at 5:00PM – we ask that you call 9-1-1.
Sincerely,
Andrea Wadman (andrea@findpierre.com) and Sean Gocher (sean@findpierre.com)
