Friends, Family and Volunteers,

On Monday we made a volunteer request for the search of Downtown Eastside. The majority of those whom responded are available on the weekend and in particular on Sunday. To maximize the effort, we will be organizing the DTES search for Sunday, November 22 at 10AM.

While the meeting location and details are TBD with more information coming on Friday, we wanted to send out a quick note to confirm the date, allowing people to plan accordingly.

If you can participate, please contact us at: volunteers@findpierre.com

Regards,
-Tim (tbaur@findpierre.com)

Pacific Spirit Park search for Pierre – Request for volunteers for Downtown Eastside Search

We are very grateful to all the volunteers who came to Pacific Spirit Park on Sunday to help in our extended search for Pierre. Despite the terrible weather, they covered all trails in the park as well as the waterfront from Spanish Banks to Trail 7. Volunteers looked for Pierre, spoke with walkers and joggers and placed posters where they could.

Paula feels strongly that a thorough search of the Downtown Eastside is important. Therefore, we are looking for two volunteers to coordinate this effort.

If you can help run the search or are willing to participate, please contact us at: volunteers@findpierre.com (include your availability over the next week and particularly on the weekend).

A search plan (time/date) and next steps will be determined. More information to follow.

Sincerely,
Andrea (andrea@findpierre.com) and Sean (sean@findpierre.com)

Sunday November 15th, Global BC News (Video) – Paula spoke publicly for the first time yesterday afternoon at Spanish Banks

“Pierre, if you are listening, I want you to know that the boys and I will never give up hope and will continue to look for you until you are home with us.  I love you will all my heart, you have been my life partner for over half my life and I intend to spend the other half of my life with you.

To the people of Vancouver, I ask, please continue to keep an eye out for Pierre.  A poster is available at http://findpierre.com. Please print and post it in your neighbourhoods and if you see Pierre, please stay with him and call 911.

On behalf of myself and the boys and our families, thank you to everyone who is participating in the search efforts to find our Pierre.  We sincerely appreciate all of your support.” -Paula

Important Information, Search Plan for Sunday at Pacific Spirit Park

Folks, a quick update for our efforts tomorrow.

Despite the foul weather (at least it isn’t supposed to snow), we are still meeting tomorrow at 9:00am at Pacific Spirit Regional Park Office on 16th Avenue (500m west of Blanca on north side of road). There are 2 important changes to our search plan tomorrow:

  • We will not be performing a detailed grid-pattern search as we did in Stanley Park. First, we don’t believe that this is a primary location for him to be found but we do wish to ensure a methodical search has taken place here. Secondly, the entire Pacific Spirit Regional parks area is essentially a protected conservation area and in order to reduce/eliminate any damage to the plants and animals – we are going to limit our search to only the trails. This will dramatically reduce the time that it will take to adequately cover this region.
  • Given the first change, we will therefore be redirecting many volunteers back towards the city to the Vancouver Eastside communities to continue canvassing, putting up the missing poster in high-visibility locations and searching parks.

Since we won’t know exactly how many volunteers we have until we perform a headcount in the morning—we ask that everyone still plan to gather at the meeting point so that we can organize the groups, assign team leaders and then distribute the kits (maps, posters, contact numbers, etc.)

Additionally, I have contacted many of the Team Leaders from the search effort on Wednesday in Stanley Park to request your assistance once more. If I have contacted you today, or if you wish to participate as a Team Leader, please come to the meeting location at 8:30am.

Best Regards, Sean (sean@findpierre.com)

Pierre ParkinsonDear Friends, Family and Volunteers,

First, let me say once again how grateful Paula and her family are to all the volunteers who are helping search for and spread the word about Pierre.

Here are the plans for today (Friday), Saturday and Sunday. Please forward this on to your contacts or those you believe can join the cause, in whatever way that they can.

    Today (Friday) & Tomorrow (Saturday) – November 13-14, 2009:

We are asking that the general search today and tomorrow cover:

    • Vancouver Downtown Eastside neighbourhoods, including: Chinatown, Gastown, Commercial Drive, Strathcona and along the waterfront stretching from Gastown to the Second Narrows bridge in Burnaby (Port of Vancouver area).
    • Vancouver and the surrounding vicinity waterways and beaches. A small contingent of vessels will continue yesterday’s efforts on the water. Sailors, or those with boats that wish to assist in continuing to scan waterways are asked to coordinate efforts with Ross Macdonald at ross@findpierre.com
    • Unless this is your own neighbourhood, we ask that you at minimum work in pairs with each others contact details (in case you get separated.)
    • Continue canvassing your own neighbourhoods and placing the poster where appropriate.

Additionally, we request that private property and restricted areas be respected or avoided unless express permission is given. The authorities typically have the channels to enlist the appropriate personnel accordingly. We do not want anyone breaking the law or putting themselves in harms way to assist with the canvassing and search. We want everyone to return home safely to their homes and loved ones at the end of each day.

If you need printed posters, they can be picked up after 11:00AM from 1275 W. 6th Ave (the Inspiration/BoConcept Furniture building – ask 2nd floor Receptionist for posters). PDF can also be downloaded here.

    Sunday, November 15, 2009:

After the exhaustive search of nearly every square foot of the approximately 1,000 acres of Stanley Park on Wednesday, we believe that there is another large parks area that needs to be covered in the same methodical manner. Our next big goal is a comprehensive grid formation search of Pacific Spirit Park (aka the Endowment Lands) adjacent to the University of British Columbia, which will cover an additional roughly 1900 acres of parks. We are planning to get started at 9am. We initially felt that due to the urgency we would organize this for Saturday, but the inbound inclement weather (-3C with light flurries) might deter some that would like to assist albeit on a day of worship.

Please note the following important information:

    • When: Sunday, November 15th
    • Time: 9:00 AM sharp
    • Place: Pacific Spirit Regional Park Office, located on the north side of 16th Avenue, approximately 600m west of Blanca St.  See map http://www.metrovancouver.org/about/maps/Maps/Pacificspiritmap.pdf
    • Parking: Free parking is available all along 16th Ave and Blanca St.
    • Clothing: Wear warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear
    • What to bring: Cell phone, flashlight, walking stick or ski pole, food & water (for yourself – the search may go all day but is based on your own availability)

We’ll provide the leadership of the effort, maps of the area, a photo of Pierre, and organize the teams. Additionally, volunteers may provide us with their email addresses so that we can keep them informed and place them on this email distribution list.

REMINDER: If you see Pierre, or recall seeing him anytime since Sunday at 5:00PM – we ask that you call 9-1-1.

    Sincerely,

Andrea Wadman (andrea@findpierre.com) and Sean Gocher (sean@findpierre.com)

    My dearest friends,

I wanted to thank you personally for all your help, love and support yesterday. I was sorry to not be able to physically join the search but I did see the footage of the turnout yesterday at Prospect Point and was incredible touched by the turnout. While it was very emotional to see the vast number of people that came out, it gave me a great deal of comfort during these hard times to know that Pierre is so loved by his friends and that he has touched even those that he has never even met. His spirit transcends no matter where he is.

For those of you who believe in prayer, please continue to pray that Pierre be found.

    All my love,

    Paula
